Position: Care Support Worker
Salary: £24,071 to £25,674 per annum
Job Type: Full Time, Part Time, Permanent

About the Role
This is a development role with the Trainee working toward progression to becoming and Band 3 Senior Care Support Worker in the Endoscopy department.
The post holder will undertake 6 months of training, under the supervision of a registered practitioner, to prepare for progression to become a band 3 Senior HCSW. This includes undertaking and completing an internal training programme and work-based competencies.
Successful completion of the training programme, work-based competencies and performance measures will lead to a substantive band 3 post.
At the end of the programme, the trainee will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours to act as a Senior CSW in the Endoscopy department
The post will involve you working in some or all of the areas of the endoscopy department and will be dependent on the clinical workload.
Under the direction of a registered practitioner the trainee Senior CSW will work towards competency in the responsibilities within the job description
Main Duties
Clinical duties
- Admission of patients
- Preparing patients for procedures
- Assisting with personal care
- Assisting with mobility working within the clinical handling plan
- Performing cannulation
- Performing venepuncture
- Performing and recording observations
- Measuring and recording INR levels using a portable device
- Measuring and recording blood glucose levels
Endoscopy room
- Preparing patients for procedures
- Providing technical assistance for Endoscopic procedures, ensuring safe working practice by following agreed guidelines under the direction and support of a Registered Nurse. This will initially include Scope removal, cleaning and set-up.
Recovery and discharge
- Preparing patients for discharge
- Working with the supervising Registered Nurse to deliver safe recovery and simple discharge of patients
- Assisting with mobility working within the clinical handling plan
Patient safety
- Ensure patient safety by working within policy, standard operating procedures (SOPS) and competency framework at all times.
- Ensuring that procedures are carried out by hospital policy taking appropriate action in emergencies under the direction and support of a Registered Nurse
- Recognise and seek guidance when needed about own scope of practice, exercising own judgment to limit work of stop practicing if in danger of acting above own limits of competence
Communication and Interpersonal responsibilities
- Communicating efficiently with patients respecting people’s dignity, wishes and beliefs; involving them in shared decision-making and communicating any changes to the status of consent to the Registered Nurse.
- Maintaining timely and accurate nursing records and ensuring that confidentiality is respected under the direction and support of a Registered Nurse
Qualifications
- GCSE Maths & English
- NVQ level 2 or equivalent experience
