Applications for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Pretoria are currently open to academically gifted African Students who wish to pursue either an undergraduate degree or a postgraduate degree. The scholarship is open to courses in the following faculties: Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment & Information Technology (EBIT), Faculty of Law (Undergraduates: SADC, Post Graduates: All African Countries), Faculty of Education.

The University of Pretoria (UP) in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation has been offering scholarships for high-achieving African students who studied undergraduate and postgraduate levels since January 2014. The Foundation will be entering into a new phase in January 2024 and it will target academically talented, yet economically disadvantaged young people living with disability in Africa; and internally displaced/refugees; who will contribute to the transformation of the continent through their knowledge, skills, attitudes and values evidenced by their leadership. Community service and internships are essential components of the Program. The Foundation offers a full scholarship to selected students who have been admitted to study towards a postgraduate degree at UP. Graduates must return to their home countries upon completion of their studies and give back to their communities.

The Japanese Government has announced applications are now being accepted from highly skilled foreigners from developing countries who wish to work in Japan for its Ministry of Energy, Trade and Investment (METI) Internship Program. The internship will be conducted in two ways: face-to-face courses in Japan and online courses. The face-to-face course will run for six weeks, while the online course will run for four weeks.

Japanese companies believe that employing highly skilled foreign professionals can enhance their competitiveness and promote overseas business expansion and innovation from a fresh perspective.

Despite an increase in the number of Japanese companies aiming to recruit global talent in recent years, especially among Small and Medium-Sized enterprises, they still face challenges due to a lack of experience in working with international talent and limited networks.

To address this, the “METI Japan Internship Program” aims to strengthen the framework for supporting Japanese companies, particularly Small and Medium-Sized ones, in their overseas development efforts by welcoming global talent.

Through these internships, we offer opportunities for global talent interested in working for Japanese companies to gain an understanding of job roles in Japan. Eligibility Criteria for the Internship

Applicants must meet all the following:

• Foreign professionals with advanced skills who are nationals of developing countries (countries on the OECD/DAC list, excluding the People’s Republic of China)
• The applicants must agree with the purpose of this project and be able to cooperate with the promotion of globalization of Japanese companies, the expansion of overseas business of companies and the building networks with overseas universities through internships.
• Holding citizenship of the applicable countries or regions.
• Proficiency in Japanese language (JLPT level N3 or higher) or proficiency in English.
• In principle, those who are 18 to 40 years old as of August 1, 2024.
• Students must be able to submit a certificate of enrollment from their university or other institution and a letter of recommendation from their university or university faculty, etc.

The Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships (QECS) offer a unique opportunity to study for a two-year Master’s degree in a low or middle-income Commonwealth country.

Benefits of the Scholarship

• Enrollment: The coverage of the entire tuition will be granted by the Colombian higher education institution (only for the academic programs that are within the catalogue of academic offers, published in the 2024-2 call).
• Health Policy/Medical Insurance: Medical and hospital assistance in Colombia that includes repatriation in case of disability or death. This assistance is only covered during the study period in Colombia and only to the scholarship recipient, it is not extended to family members. Scholars must bear the cost of prescription drugs and a moderate fee for medical examinations.
• Courtesy visa: ICETEX will send each fellow a letter for the online application of the courtesy visa type “V” visa, which will be granted by the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the study period. This visa is only for the fellow. If you require a visa for family members, they must apply for a visa on their behalf.
• Living Expenses/monthly support: ICETEX will support each foreign scholarship holder with monthly support (living expenses) amounting to three current legal monthly minimum wages. In 2025, the adjustment will be made according to the increase in the minimum wage decreed by the Colombian Ministry of Labor. This Item will be granted only to those who are in Colombian territory carrying out in-person studies.
• Installation expenses: ICETEX will support each scholarship holder with an amount for installation expenses in Colombia, for the only time in the study period. This item will be granted only to those who are in Colombian territory carrying out in-person studies.
• Expenses of books and materials: For each year of study, ICETEX will support each scholarship holder with a value for books and materials, specialization scholarship holders will receive single support, master’s scholarship holders will receive up to two supports and doctorate scholarship holders between three and four according to the time of their study doctorate.
• Foreign Identification “Cedula de Extranjeria: This is a financial support equivalent to 250,000 COP, which will be paid only once during the entire study program to cover costs related to the issuance of the Foreign Identification id “Cedula D eExtranjeria”. This item will be granted in the first stipend received by the scholarship recipient once the foreign identification and bank certificate have been issued and sent to ICETEX.

Eligibility Criteria for the Scholarship

• All students must have the right to study in Australia. International students are required to either hold a visa with study rights that cover the entire period of study or provide evidence of their application for an appropriate visa AND hold a visa with study rights until the expected approval of the appropriate visa. Students who do not hold an appropriate visa for the full length of their period of study can take up their scholarship at the discretion of the Manager: Applications and Admissions, Student and Academic Services, or their delegated authority.
• All international students must meet our English language requirements to be eligible for entry into a research degree.
• A relevant Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) of at least 3 years with a minimum credit average; or an Honours degree or a Bachelor’s degree with honours;

Applicants for the International Research Tuition Scholarship, in addition to meeting UniSA’s eligibility criteria, applicants must be:

• Commencing international research degree students
• High quality with demonstrated research capability, as assessed by UniSA
• Be supported by a strong supervisory panel (with an end-user adviser on the supervisory panel, where appropriate), and be enrolled in a research-rich environment
• In receipt of (or been awarded) a fully externally funded stipend scholarship, or in receipt of a living stipend supported by external funding*.

*Note: the living stipend needs to be in the form of an externally funded scholarship administered through the University or in agreement with an industry partner, sponsorship body or organisation

Benefits of the Scholarship

• A full-time equivalent fee offset of up to 4 years for a Doctoral program, and 2 years for a Masters’s by Research program. Once the fee offset period ends you will be liable for ongoing tuition fees.
• A full-time base stipend of at least $32,500 per annum. The stipend is available for up to 3 years for a Doctoral Program or a maximum of 2 years for a Masters by Research program. Once the stipend scholarship ends you will be liable for all living expenses. Note that the stipend scholarship for a PhD student is for less time than the fee waiver. This is to allow the candidate additional fee-free time for marking post the initial completion of the thesis

Eligibility Criteria for the Scholarship

To be eligible for consideration for the award of an RTP scholarship, students must:

• Be a domestic student or an international student enrolled in an accredited HDR course of study at the Australian National University;
• Not be receiving income from another source to support that student’s general living costs while undertaking their course of study if that income is greater than 75 per cent of that student’s RTP Stipend rate.
• Continuing eligibility for RTP scholarships depends upon students remaining enrolled and, for international students, retaining residency status for the duration of their eligible HDR program. If an international student changes their residency status the university is required to reconsider their eligibility for RTP scholarships in respect of their changed residential status.
• Students cannot receive an equivalent scholarship from the Commonwealth designed to offset HDR tuition fees if they receive an RTP Fee Offset scholarship

Benefits of the Scholarship

• Stipend scholarship for three years, with the possibility of:
• Six-month standard extension; and
• Another six-month extension if the reason for the request falls within the additional eligibility criteria under Item 15. Period of Support, of the AGRTP Procedure.
• Travel and removal allowances for students relocating to Canberra to commence their research program.

The British Council is offering Master’s scholarship opportunities to international women who hold a Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) subject. Women who are passionate about their field of study will be given the exciting opportunity to obtain Master’s degrees at a prestigious UK University in a bid to close the gender gap in STEM subjects.

For the fourth year running the British Council is launching our global Women in STEM scholarship programme in partnership with UK universities. This is the fourth year that the scholarship has been launched. We are looking for women with a STEM background who can demonstrate their need for financial support and who wish to inspire future generations of women to pursue careers in STEM.

This scholarship is geared towards closing the widening disparity between the number of male and female researchers in STEM-related fields. According to data from the UN Scientific Education and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), less than 30 per cent of the world’s researchers are women and only 30 per cent of female students select STEM-related fields in higher education. Globally, female students’ enrolment is particularly low in Information and Communications Technology (three per cent), natural science, mathematics and statistics (five per cent), and engineering, manufacturing and construction (eight per cent). Educating, training, and hiring more women in STEM can lead to better scientific and financial outcomes, increasing diversity in the workforce, bringing variety in perspectives and ideas and giving organisations a competitive edge.

Eligibility Criteria for the Scholarship for Africans

• Be or identify as a woman.
• Be a passport holder and permanent resident of one of the eligible countries
• Meet the entry requirement of the UK Higher Education Institution for the courses they apply for, including academic equivalents and English language.
• The candidate must have completed all components of an undergraduate degree at the time of applying for the scholarship; the British Council can consider final awards pending on a case-by-case basis.
• Demonstrate a case for financial support/socio-economic need.
• Not receive financial support or funding towards their study programme in the UK From any other source and not be able to privately fund their UK studies.
• Preference should be given to candidates who have not had any international exposure before this scheme.
• Have not previously studied at a degree level or higher in the UK or lived recently in the UK.
• Distance learning at a UK university or studying at a UK branch campus in another country Will also be considered as studying in the UK.
• Indicate their preference for course and institution in the case of applying to multiple institutions.
• Meet the English language requirement of the UK Higher Education Institution.
• Be motivated and academically able to follow and benefit from a UK postgraduate taught course.
• Be active in the field with work experience or with a proven interest in the proposed subject area.
• Be willing to demonstrate future contribution to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement of their home country through the benefits achieved after graduating from UK higher education.
• Agree to maintain contact with the British Council and act as an ambassador for the UK and engage with activities as part of a Scholarships for Women in STEM alumnus during and after their studies in the UK.
• Demonstrate a plan and a passion to engage other women and girls in STEM from their home country.
• Agree to their data being shared with the British Council for purposes of Assessment and promotional activity, as a condition of applying for the scholarship.
• Agree to return to their country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after their Scholarship award has ended.

A Candidate will not be eligible if they:

• Hold dual British citizenship.
• Are an employee, a former employee, or relative (*) of an employee of Her Majesty’s Government (including but not limited to: British Embassies/High Commissions; Department for Business and Trade (DBT), the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT); Department for International Trade; the Ministry of Defence; and the Home Office)

Schwarzman Scholars are selected from an international pool of distinguished candidates. Eligibility Criteria for the Scholarship for Africans

In addition to demonstrating extraordinary leadership skills, the ability to anticipate and act on trends and changes in their context, strong intellectual capacity, and exemplary character, candidates must meet the following criteria.

• Must have an undergraduate degree: Applicants who are currently enrolled in undergraduate degree programs must be on track to complete all degree requirements before August 1 of their Schwarzman Scholars enrollment year. There are no requirements for a specific field of undergraduate study; all fields are welcome, but it is important for applicants, regardless of undergraduate major, to articulate how participating in Schwarzman Scholars will help develop their leadership potential within their field.
• Must be 18-28 years of age: Candidates must be at least 18 but not yet 29 years of age as of August 1 of their Schwarzman Scholars enrollment year (for the Class of 2025-2026, as of August 1, 2025)
• Must be Proficient in English Language: Applicants must demonstrate strong English skills, as all teaching will be conducted in English. If the applicant’s native language is not English, official English proficiency test scores must be submitted with the application. This requirement is waived for applicants who studied at an undergraduate institution where the primary language of instruction was English for at least two years of the applicant’s academic program. The requirement will also be waived for applicants who have studied in English for two or more years at a Master’s degree level or higher. Acceptable test options are Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT). Minimum score 100. International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Minimum score 7. Cambridge English: Advanced (C1) or Cambridge English: Proficiency (C2). Minimum score 185.

Benefits of the Scholarship

• Interview expenses, such as economy class air or train travel, group meals, and one night in a hotel if needed, are arranged and covered by the program.
• Expenses for Schwarzman Scholars are also fully covered by the program, including the following: tuition, fees, room and board, travel to and from Beijing at the beginning and end of the academic year, in-country study tours, required course books and supplies, a Lenovo laptop, health insurance, and a personal stipend.

Selection Process

Interested candidates participate in a rigorous and thorough selection process, designed to identify the most promising young leaders from around the world. Those selected will have demonstrated an ability to effectively understand and contribute to the program so it may evolve to suit the needs of a rapidly changing world.

Applications are reviewed by a distinguished committee of business, government and academic leaders from around the world. A select number of candidates are invited for interviews in late October and early November before an international panel of leaders from a variety of backgrounds. These interviewers draw on their leadership experience to identify a cohort of highly accomplished candidates whose paths to leadership will be enhanced by an introduction to China and its global role.
