We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable Senior Healthcare Assistant to join our caring and progressive team in Canterbury.
Healthcare assistants provide care to people at home and in residential care homes, as part of a care plan agreed with local nursing teams.
As a healthcare assistant, you’ll:
Work as part of a team to provide care to local patients and families
Monitor the quality of care they’re receiving
Provide feedback to managers on the quality of care.
Your patients could be any age, but they’ll often be elderly, while others may have been recently discharged from hospital, be terminally ill or have physical disabilities.
Main Duties
As a Band 3 Senior Healthcare Assistant, you will work as part of a team to keep people safe and well at home. You will carry out care plans designed to support people living at home, in care homes or in other settings and make sure that people who use our services have a good experience.
Band 3 Senior Health Care Workers, will work closely with all users of our services and their families, friends and carers who all play an invaluable contribution in how our users experience our services. Band 3 Senior Health Care Workers, are expected to be kind and responsive but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services provided within the community team across the health economy by:
- Keeping the people who use our services as safe as possible through the use of sound clinical skills and effective risk assessments escalating concerns to Registered Healthcare Professionals.
- Ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence-based policies and procedures within the scope of assessed competence
- Ensure the people using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership with people throughout the care planning process
- Senior Health Care Worker who works in these services requires a range of core skills as follows:
- To contribute to the ongoing implementation and evaluation of delegated caseload and reporting all clinical and behavioural outcomes to delegated nurses or therapists to support re-assessments.
- To undertake, and report back on delegated clinical activities that have previously been signed competent. E.g. baseline vital signs, routine urinalysis, glucose monitoring, wound management, falls prevention awareness, equipment provision, increasing independence through activities of daily living
Patient Safety
Band 3 Senior Health Care Worker contributes to the provision of safe and reliable services by:
- Developing and achieving baseline clinical skills, and working within a competency framework for any extended clinical skills relevant to the clinical area
- Maintaining at all times a kind, caring and professional attitude towards patients, relatives and colleagues within the clinical setting, taking into consideration dignity, privacy, and confidentiality, cultural and religious needs.
Qualifications
- Relevant level 3 qualification (NVQ/ QCF Diploma or certificate of care / Advanced apprenticeship) or equivalent or working towards Functional Skills at Level 2 (Literacy and numeracy/ GCSE grade A-C or equivalent in English and Maths)
Experience (Essential)
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a Healthcare Assistant/ Worker in a health or social care setting Experience working as part of a team Experience with the use of Microsoft Office and a variety of IT packages (EPay / E-roster/ AT-P/ CIS)
Knowledge (Essential)
- Awareness of developments in the NHS Knowledge of up-to-date clinical practice. Understands the role and remit of Unregistered worker
Skills & Abilities (Essential)
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written). Ability to organise own work Ability to cope with change Ability to use own initiative Moderate IT skills.
Personal attributes (Essential)
- Empathetic Supportive Ability to work under pressure Flexible and adaptable
- Ability to prioritise care delivery in a professional manner, taking into account Trust policies and procedures. Ability to manage own time effectively.
